Angaza Africa is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for all children and young people involved in our programs. This Child Protection Policy outlines our approach to safeguarding children and ensuring that every interaction with our organization promotes their well-being, dignity, and rights.


1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and any form of harm.
  • Ensure all staff, mentors, and volunteers understand their responsibilities regarding child protection.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment in all Angaza programs.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All children and youth aged 8–18 who participate in Angaza programs, including Kids Fun Days, Angaza Clubs, Mentorship On-The-Go, and Angaza in Nature.
  • All Angaza staff, peer mentors, volunteers, partners, and contractors interacting with children.
  • All physical and virtual spaces used for Angaza activities, including schools, parks, forests, community centers, and online platforms.

3. Guiding Principles

Angaza Africa follows these core principles:

  • Best Interests of the Child: Every decision prioritizes the safety, well-being, and development of children.
  • Zero Tolerance: Any form of abuse, exploitation, or neglect is unacceptable.
  • Child Participation: Children are encouraged to express their views safely and participate in decisions affecting them.
  • Confidentiality: Children’s personal information is handled securely and shared only on a need-to-know basis.

4. Definitions

  • Child: Any person under the age of 18.
  • Abuse: Includes physical, emotional, or sexual harm, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Mentor: Any Angaza staff, peer mentor, or volunteer working with children.

5. Recruitment and Training

  • All staff and mentors undergo thorough background checks, reference verification, and screening before engaging with children.
  • Staff and mentors receive mandatory training on child protection, safeguarding, and recognizing signs of abuse.
  • Peer mentors are trained to lead by example and follow child protection guidelines in all activities.

6. Safe Program Practices

  • Children are supervised at all times during activities.
  • Programs like Angaza in Nature and Mentorship On-The-Go are structured to include risk assessments and safety plans for all locations.
  • Children are encouraged to report concerns or unsafe situations to mentors or designated child protection officers.
  • Activities emphasize respect, inclusion, and developmentally appropriate engagement.

7. Reporting and Responding

  • Any suspected or reported case of abuse, neglect, or exploitation is taken seriously and handled immediately.
  • Reports are confidential and investigated by designated child protection officers in line with local laws and international best practices.
  • Staff or mentors found violating this policy face disciplinary action, including termination or legal action if warranted.

8. Online Safety

  • Digital platforms used for mentorship and program communications follow strict online safety measures.
  • Children’s personal data is protected in line with our Privacy Policy.
  • Mentors are trained to monitor interactions and prevent online exploitation or inappropriate contact.

9. Engagement with Parents and Guardians

  • Parents or guardians are informed about program activities, policies, and safety measures.
  • Guardians are encouraged to participate in feedback and reporting processes.

10. Monitoring and Review

  • This policy is reviewed annually or whenever new legal, programmatic, or safety requirements arise.
  • Angaza Africa maintains oversight of program activities to ensure compliance with child protection standards.
  • Continuous training and evaluation ensure staff and mentors uphold best practices in safeguarding children.
